Altcourse is a Category B private prison located in Fazakerley, Liverpool, United Kingdom. It is operated by the private prison management company G4S, now known as The GEO Group. Altcourse Prison was opened in 1997 as the first privately designed, constructed, and operated prison in the United Kingdom. Its construction was part of the government's initiative to introduce competition and innovation into the prison system. The prison was built on the site of a former Ministry of Defence supply depot.

Altcourse Prison primarily holds adult male prisoners serving sentences of various lengths. How to book a visit at HM Prison Altcourse

Prisoners can book their own visits via the computer system inside the prison.

You can book visits by calling either 0151 522 2196 or 0151 522 2042 between 08:30-18:00 during the week ( it shuts an hour earlier on Friday’s). You must give at least 24hrs notice for a visit, and you can only book 7 days in advance.

The visiting times at the Prison are as follows:

Monday to Friday Visits
13:30-14:30 – Arrival time – visitors to book in 12.15pm
15:15-16:15 – Arrival time – visitors to book in 14:15hrs
18:15-19:15 – Arrival time – visitors to book in 17:00hrs

Saturday Visits
09:15-10:15 Arrival time – visitors to book in 08:15hrs
11:00-12:00 Arrival time – visitors to book in 10:00hrs
14:00-16:00 Arrival time – visitors to book in 13:00hrs

Sunday Visits
09:15-10:15 Arrival time – visitors to book in 08:15hrs
11:00-12:00 Arrival time – visitors to book in 10:00hrs
13:45-14:45 Arrival time – visitors to book in 12:45hrs
15:30-16:30 Arrival time – visitors to book in 14:30hrs

– Only 3 adults are allowed into the visit aswell as children.
– visits needs to be booked up at least 24 hours in advance and a max of 7 days in advance.

Altcourse Prison Directions:
The nearest train station is Fazakerley Station. Arrive at Liverpool Central Station then take the Northern Line Kirkby train to Fazakerley.

To Walk from the station: Arrive at Liverpool Central Station in the city centre, then take the Northern Line Kirkby train to Fazakerley

By Bus
From the Liverpool city centre bus station Paradise Street bus interchange: stand 9, bus nos.20, or 21 to Longmoor Lane, then the 121 to the prison.

Alternatively the No 17 from Paradise Street bus interchange stand 5 to Fazakerley hospital, then the 121 to the prison.
